There is never a socket where you want light: the far end of the terrace at dusk, the landing at 2 a.m., the hotel nightstand whose only outlet is taken by your phone. Soothe has no cord and really is pocket-sized, so you put it down wherever the evening takes you. With the master switch underneath turned off, it can travel in a bag all day without waking and running flat.

Wipe the dome with a soft, dry cloth and nothing abrasive, which would haze the diffuser. Keep it away from standing water and out of long, direct summer sun. Recharge from any USB port. Turn the master switch off when it is packed for travel.

How do I switch it on and dim it?

Touch the top of the dome anywhere. Tap again to move down the brightness steps, from bright enough to read by to a faint night glow, and then off. There is no other control to learn.

What does the switch underneath do?

It is a master cut-off. Turn it off and the touch surface stops responding, so the lamp cannot be woken by movement in a bag and arrive with a flat battery. Turn it on again and the tap control works as before.

Can it be used outdoors?

Yes. It is made for evenings at a terrace, balcony or patio table. It is not rated for rain or immersion, so treat it as you would your phone: fine in the evening air, and indoors before a downpour.

How long does a single charge last?

Several evenings of normal bedside use, and a good deal longer on the lower brightness steps. It recharges from any USB port or plug, and the cable is in the box.

Is the light a warm white or a cool white?

Warm. The opal dome softens a warm-white LED into a pool that leans to amber with no blue edge, which is why it suits winding down more than tasks.

Is it safe for a child's room?

Yes. It runs on a low-voltage internal cell with no mains cord to trip over, the LED stays cool to the touch, and there is no bulb or glass to break. Charge it with the lamp switched off and out of reach.
