This fluted wall sconce trades the glare of a ceiling fixture for two soft columns of warm gold that wash up and down the plaster — light you can actually relax beneath. The ridged half-column breaks the glow into a gentle gradient instead of a hotspot, so it never shines directly into your eyes.

In every room there is a moment at dusk when the ceiling light starts to feel like an interrogation. Hazel™ is the alternative: a small fluted half-column, 14 by 16.5 centimetres, that mounts flat on the wall and sends its light where evening light should go, up the plaster and down it and never into your eyes. The ribbed shade breaks the glow into soft vertical lines of shadow, so the wall itself becomes the lamp. Turn off the main light and the room settles: warmer, lower and finished for the day.

Dust the flutes with a soft, dry cloth or a duster. Switch off and let the fixture cool before you touch the shade. Use no liquids and no abrasives.

Does it have to be wired in?

Yes. Hazel™ is a hardwired wall fixture. An electrician can fit it in about twenty minutes using the mount and fixings supplied.

Mitkä ovat sen mitat?

14 cm wide and 16.5 cm tall, and it stands only 8 cm off the wall, about the size of an open hand. It is small enough for a hallway and has enough presence for a bedside.

Does it shine warm or cool?

Warm: a golden, end-of-day tone that suits plaster and skin, and never the blue-white of an office corridor.

Which colour goes with a cream wall?

White blends into the plaster and gives pure light. Sage and Terracotta look like small sculptures against cream. Charcoal makes the boldest mark.

Can I put two or three on one wall?

That is where it works particularly well. Spaced about a metre apart along a hallway, or on each side of a bed, the washes of light above and below join into one continuous band of evening light.

Can the light source be replaced?

The LED source is reached from behind the shade and can be changed without taking the mount off the wall.
